David Ulrich is professor at the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan and a partner at the RBL Group, a consulting firm focused on helping organizations and leaders deliver value. He studies how organizations build capabilities of leadership, speed, learning, accountability and talent through leveraging human resources. His work has helped define and shape key capabilities such as change, learning, collaboration, accountability, talent, service, innovation and efficiency. The outcomes of leadership and HR are the capabilities that an organization possesses that deliver value to customers, investors, and communities. He has helped generate award winning data bases that assess alignment between strategies, organization capabilities, HR practices, HR competencies, and customer and investor results.
Although he has been involved in large-scale research projects, Dave Ulrich’s presentations are characterized by synthesizing complex ideas into frameworks and tools that executives can use.
He works with groups of all sizes and his motto is that good teaching is not what he knows, but how his knowledge helps participants do what they do better.

He has published over 100 articles and written over a dozen books covering topics in HR and Leadership including Tomorrow’s (HR) Management, Human Resource Champions, Results Based Leadership, The Leadership Code and HR Transformation: Building Human Resources from the Outside In. His latest book The Why of Work (co-authored with Wendy Ulrich) was the No.1 best seller for Wall Street Journal and USA Today in 2010.
His honours list for 2010 include Nobels Colloquia Prize for Leadership on Business and Economic Thinking, Life Fellowship in Australia Human Resources Institute (AHRI), No. 1 most influential international thought leader in HR by HR Magazine and Kirk Englehardt Exemplary Business Ethics Award from Utah Valley University.
In 2009 he was listed in Thinkers 50 as a management thought leader and ranked most influential person in HR by HR Magazine in 2008.
He is a Fellow in the National Academy of Human Resources.
He edited Human Resource Management 1990-1999, served on editorial board of 4 Journals, on the Board of Directors for Herman Miller, and Board of Trustees at Southern Virginia University, and is a Fellow in the National Academy of Human Resources.
