Christiane zu Salm is a media, internet and emerging technology entrepreneur who advocates the development of new and innovative business models in these fields.
Christiane zu Salm is founder and CEO of About Change Ventures (ACV). ACV is an independent private equity fund which was founded in spring 2007. ACV offers growth capital for media content, internet, telecom and advertising companies. ACV focuses on later stage investments on a global basis. The fund was closed in October 2007 and has a volume of over €100 million.
She has 15 years experience in the media industry, a well-developed track record of creating value in media companies, and has established an extensive network in the international media world.
Ms. zu Salm served as the Chief Executive Officer at Euvia Media AG. She has built a strong career in the media and digital industry across central Europe including founding her own business Euvia Media and launching two interactive TV channels 9Live and sonnenklar TV. Ms. zu Salm served as the Chief Executive Officer, Managing Director, and shareholder of the private TV channel 9Live (formerly known as tm3). She re-launched the channel and brought it to profitability in a matter of months. Ms. zu Salm then launched internationally the business model of 9Live, starting in the UK in 2004 through to a cooperation with Channel 4. With 9Live and its highly innovative business model she created the single most profitable market for alternative revenues within the European broadcasting industry.
Prior to this, Ms. zu Salm served as a Managing Director for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland of MTV Networks GmbH, Munich from 1998 to 2001. Before that, she worked for five years at Bertelsmann AG in the areas of broadcasting, television production and music.
Ms. zu Salm serves as a Member of Advisory Board at JumpTV.com, Inc. and Red Bee Media Limited and as a Director at Ringier AG. She serves as a Founding Member of the Board of Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship in Germany and Member of the Board of the German-Israeli Trade Association. She is a Member of the German Music Council and takes a teaching position at the University of the Arts in Berlin.
Ms. zu Salm has published a book about the future of television focusing on interactive TV. She initiated the “European College of Arts” scholarship program for young European artists which promotes dialog between arts, society and business in Europe.
Ms. zu Salm was ranked by the Financial Times Europe among the top 25 Leaders of the new Europe. She is a recent recipient of the Eisenhower Fellowship, giving her access to US leaders, has received Echo award as a Media Manager of the year, and was nominated as Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum in 2002.
Ms. zu Salm holds an M.B.A. from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany and from Harvard University in Cambridge, U.S.A.
